Cocktails with Clea

Normal tomato juice? Or, spicy atomic?

Are you into jalapeños?  Celery?

Or, maybe you would prefer some crumbled bacon?

Don't forget to add some salt & pepper to your Bloody Mary, stir it on up, come over and curl up with me…

Meine Damen und Herren.

Mesdames et Messieurs,

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Welcome to Cocktails with Clea!

For those of you I'm just meeting… Enchanté! The pleasure is all mine. J

Let me turn up the stereo so we can hear Sharon Needles's album booming in the background, add some Tabasco to my bloody cocktail, and share a bit about myself.

I was born in Reseda, California, also known as the home of the Karate Kid, or even more affectionately, "The Valley"  (yes, it's true, I am 100% pure valley girl…..shut up! ;).  I survived 12 years of Catholic school (including an all girls high school), studied ballet, wore a headgear and was a complete bookworm.  As soon as I graduated, I made a pit stop in Conneticut, but ultimately, I ran away from the nuns, knee length plaid skirts, and society "norms", to the magical and dangerous NYC.  I moved in with two drag queens and dove head first into city's intoxicating underground. I never looked back.  A few years later, (no true lady should ever age herself) I am now a full time touring NeoBurlesque performer, that calls my cozy flat here in East Berlin, Germany, my home.

Huh, seeing it typed out it's a bit like Hedwig and I changed places ;)

This column is to share my adventures in touring. From the sparkling world of burlesque, to the cat-fights, stinky tour buses with the band, from stages in Moscow to haystacks in Austin. From getting lost in the Medina in Casablanca on the way to a show, to having one too many drinks with sword swallowers and Drag Queens. From the punk toilets, to strawberry mojitos, this column is about the whacky and wonderful world of touring.

Most importantly, this column is not just about me…it is dedicated to our amazing community and a chance for me to share these dazzling neon shining stars that I have a privileged to meet, encounter, work with, drink or borrow a sequin from along the way. I want this space to be a celebration of our technicolor world and the people who constantly inspire me.

It's been a full year already! Traveled with the fluffy punk band BONAPARTE to Sweden, Russia, France, Italy, Austria, Switzerland, and USA. I got to stay a month in NYC and combine Bonaparte with a solo burlesque tour…and this first intro column is dedicated to my two favorite kings of cockrock & pussypop, DJs Dario Speedwagon and Mickey B. We've had many bloody marys together, and thanks to them I have my own copy of Sharon Needles's album, PG-13 on repeat, playing in the background while I type.

As my drink runs dry, I realize that it's time to shower, put on a pound of eyeliner and start the day! I'm looking forward to meeting you all soon again over another cocktail, and a new adventure.

Here is the recipe for my favorite Bloody Mary:

Vodka (of course! But, if you are feeling fancy try a pepper flavored vodka…delicious!)

Green Olives
Worcestershire Sauce
Your favorite Hot Sauce
Bloody Mary Mix ….and a straw ;)

As RuPaul would say, "If you can't love yourself, how the hell you gonna love somebody else!"

Amen Ru!

Till next time!
